Returning to Madison Square Garden, the July 18 WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event had major implications for SummerSlam.
While the main event of SummerSlam appeared to be CM Punk defending the WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes, the main event of the MSG show could have changed the match. Punk and Rhodes teamed up to take on Sami Zayn and Gunther. If Gunther and Zayn won, the SummerSlam match would be a fatal 4 way.
Additionally, the Women’s Tag Team Championships were on the line, and Danhausen faced JD McDonagh in a no DQ match.
The show was also part of Fanatics Fest NYC, which saw the biggest stars in sports in attendance. Following on from the New York Knicks’ historic NBA Championship win, multiple players were in attendance. Knicks player Jalen Brunson joined Roman Reigns in the ring as part of the celebrations.
Michael Cole and Wade Barrett were on commentary for the show.

- Trick Williams defeated Laredo Kid
Main card:
- Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid defeated Brie Bella and Paige to become the new Women’s Tag Team Champions
- Danhausen defeated JD McDonagh in a No DQ match
- Lyra Valkyria defeated Bayley
- CM Punk and Cody Rhodes defeated Sami Zayn and Gunther. As a result, Punk vs. Rhodes will remain a one on one match at SummerSlam.
