A member of the WWE roster who has crossed paths with John Cena in the past is looking to do whatever is necessary to add their name to the list of select few opponents.
With John Cena retiring in 2025 and having previously announced that he would be making 36 appearances, there are only a limited number of spots available. With this in mind, SmackDown star Grayson Waller looks to use his unique way with words to give the Hollywood star no choice but to accept a match with him in the ring.
Waller and Cena previously crossed paths at Money in the Bank 2023 when the Aussie protested the idea that the UK could host a WrestleMania, which resulted in Cena laying out the former Tag team Champion to close out the segment.
Speaking with Wide World of Sports, Waller brought up their previous encounter and added that Cena is the hottest test:
“I’ve had the opportunity to be in there with him on the microphone, but I’ve never had the opportunity to be tested by him in the ring. And I think that’s what Cena does: test people. He’s a measuring stick. You go against John Cena; you show that you belong. So many guys have gone in there and afterwards gone on to big things because they passed the test. And I want the hottest test, and I think that is it.”
Continuing, Waller also added that as Cena’s time is limited he is prepared to do anything possible to make the match happen:
“If he’s only here for one more year, I’m gonna say whatever I have to say to make that happen. I’m gonna say the meanest things possible. And I already know I have his attention, and I think it’s time to double down and really show that I’m the kinda guy that you put in against Cena at the end.”
John Cena Addresses Post-Retirement Plans
With more than 2 decades in the WWE and one of the most accomplished performers in the modern era, Cena will be remembered for decades to come regardless of his perception from the fans. Not looking to entirely end his professional wrestling career, John Cena previously stated that he intends to stay a part of WWE after all is said and done. Cena’s final match will take place in December 2025, allowing fans multiple opportunities to see him compete one more time.
Cena is next expected to appear on WWE TV in January as part of the debut episode of Raw on Netflix.
