The future of the World Heavyweight Championship was revealed on WWE Raw.
Raw General Manager Adam Pearce opened the October 20 broadcast, but was quickly interrupted by Paul Heyman, Bronson Reed and Bron Brakker, the latter of which was holding the World Title previously held by Seth Rollins. Pearce then announced that following Rollins’ match at Crown Jewel and the attack by The Vision on the following episode of Raw, The Visionary had undergone surgery and his reign had come to a premature end.
After Breakker eventually gave the championship to Pearce, it was also announced that a battle royal would take place later in the night, where the winner would face CM Punk to determine the new World Champion.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match Set For Saturday Night’s Main Event
The main event of the show saw the battle royal take place. The clsoing moments of the match saw Jey Uso eliminate Jimmy Uso and LA Knight, both of whom were figthing on the apron. Shortly aterwards, Uso was able to eliminate Dominik Mysterio to earn his opportunity at the championship. The closing oments of the show saw a staredown between Uso and Punk take place. Punk was on commentary for the match.
The match between CM Punk and Jey Uso for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship will take place at the next Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1. Both men have previously held the title earlier in the year, and both men also defeated Gunther to become the champion. Uso defeated Gunther at WrestleMania 41, while Punk won his match at SummerSlam.
