AJ Styles and Dragon Lee dethroned The Judgment Day on WWE Raw to become the new World Tag Team Champions.
Competing in the opening match of the October 20 edition of the show, Styles and Lee emerged victorious over Finn Balor and JD McDonagh to capture the gold. The closing moments of the match saw Styles hit The Styles Clash onto Balor to pick up the win. The new champs celebrated after the bell as pyro went off in the arena.
The match was made official the previous week after Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio protested to General Manager Adam Pearce that he was the only one defening his title. Unfortunately for mysterio, this move backfired as Pearce then booked the Tag Title match for October 20. As a result of The Judgment Day losing their titles, Mysterio is now the only champion left in the group. Mysterio successfully defended the Intercontinental Championship against Rusev later that night.
AJ Styles And Dragon Lee Begin Reign As Tag Team Champions
The title change brings to an end Balor and McDonagh’s reign at 112 days. While the vicotry adds to Styles’ WWE record, which saw him previously hold tag team gold with Omos, this is the first time that Lee has held a main roster championship. Lee is a former NXT North American Champion and WWE Speed Champion.
