Why Gunther Hates WWE Money In The Bank

Gunther is not a fan of the WWE Money in the Bank contract and what it has become.

The Ring General is currently in his second reign as World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Jey Uso on the June 9 episode of Raw. Following a confrontation with Goldberg, Gunther will next put the title on the line at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12th against the Hall of Famer in what is being billed as Goldberg’s final match.

Unlike his first reign, Gunther also has to keep in mind that he could be at risk of losing the championship at any time, as Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins could cash in his opportunity on the World Champion and repeat his success of 2015. When asked about this being a possibility, the Raw star admitted he has never agreed with the concept.

Gunther Expresses “Disgust” For Money In The Bank

Appearing as a guest on The Masked Man ShowGunther stated that there was no honour or reward for cashing in a contract on an already beaten-down opponent, adding that he wanted to see Seth Rollins take the more honourable road:

“So, first of all I want to express my disgust for the Money in the Bank briefcase, whatever you to call it. I remember back then when some of those big cash-in moments happened and some of those guys won a big title for the first time in their career, and it’s because they run out with a briefcase on an already beaten opponent? You just lay on top of him for 3 seconds, I never thought that was very gratifying. So that’s never something I was interested in participating. As of right now, I don’t know, maybe there’s a little bit of honour left in Seth Rollins to not use it like that. But yeah, I’m not too worried about it to be honest.”

Continuing, the World Champion described the Money in the Bank briefcase as “a shortcut” and not a worthy way to win the title:

“It’s a shortcut. When you win something big, you want to earn it. It never felt gratifying.”

It was also pointed out on the show that many have taken the shortcut route as opposed to announcing their cash-in ahead of time, with the last being Braun Strowman back in 2018.
