Finally, The Rock made his debut on WWE NXT.
Closing out the New Year’s Evil special episode on January 7th, The Final Boss made his first ever appearance in front of an NXT crowd and once again received a very warm welcome from the fans. With sustained chants before the promo began, Rock informed the crowd that they only had six and a half minuted before the show would be taken off the air so wanted to give them a closing segment to remember.
In the opening portion of the promo, Rock referenced his appearance on the Raw on Netflix premiere that raised eyebrows, and not in a good way. With no reference to his Final Boss persona or animosity towards Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, The People’s Champion put over the current and former Undisputed Champion and made no reference that a match at WrestleMania would be happening. Additionally, the WWE legend was seen later in the night presenting Reigns with the Ula Fala and drinking tequila backstage with Rhodes.
Referencing the fan criticism, Rock stated that he does have a plan and the fans should just enjoy the ride and stop guessing:
“The Rock is the Final Boss thinking twenty steps ahead, so the best thing for them to do is to know their role, shut their mouths, and enjoy the ride that The Rock is taking them on,”
Rock also put over the stars of NXT and how the fans will dictate how their careers will play out. Ending the promo at the last second, Rock hit his catchphrase and the show went to black.
Also at NXT New Year’s Evil, multiple new champions were crowned.

The Hollywood star was also seen earlier in the show interrupting a confrontation between Ethan Page and General Manager Ava, who is also his daughter. While things seemed cordial at first, Rock reminded Page that Ava was the Final Boss of NXT and they needed to be cool. Rock also stated that he hopes to see Page on the main roster one day.
