The Latest On Oba Femi Following WWE NXT No Mercy

An update has been provided on Oba Femi following persistent rumours regarding the former WWE NXT Champion’s status with the brand.

Femi lost the title to Ricky Saints in the main event of No Mercy, bringing to an end his dominant 262-day run with the title. Given that Femi has had a dominant run in NXT and appears to have little left to do on the brand, there has been speculation that the powerhouse could be on his way to the main roster very soon. However, according to the latest update, Fami’s call-up is not expected to happen just yet.

As reported by Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletterthe former NXT Champion is not set to leave the brand right now as there are other plans for him on the Tuesday night show. However, it noted that Femi could be hit with a surprise call-up, as a categorical no is not a possibility:

“Regarding the idea Oba Femi lost the NXT title so he could be brought to the main roster, this is one of those things where the answer as far as everyone knows is no, in the sense Femi is still in the plans for NXT going forward,” Meltzer wrote. “However, they do swerve people and tell almost nobody about call-ups a lot of the time so people who should know get blindsided. So it’s a no as far as just about anyone knows, but there is no such thing as a 100 percent no.”

Oba Femi Has Been Dominant In WWE NXT

Although Femi has only competed in 47 televised matches at the time of writing, the Nigerian wrestler has already left a lasting impression and established himself as a firm fan favourite on NXT. After winning the 2023 Breakout Tournament, Femi quickly seized his opportunity by defeating Dragon Lee to become the new North American Champion. After losing the title to Tony D’Angelo the following year, many knew that Femi becoming the top champion on the brand was inevitable. Three months later, Femi emerged the victor at the New Year’s Evil special to win the top title for the first time in his career.
