Chris Jericho has acknowledged a major milestone in the wrestling world, while also promising that things are far from over for him in the industry.
Taking to social media on October 2, the AEW star noted that it had been 35 years since his first pro wrestling match against Lance Storm in Alberta, Canada. Reflecting on the day itself and still able to remember all the minor details, Jericho looked at how far he had come since then and ended the post with the promise that “it ain’t over yet.”
“Crazy to think it’s been 35 years to the day of my VERY FIRST MATCH! On Oct 2, 1990 I faced @stormwrestlingacademy in Ponoka, Alberta at the #PonokaMooseHall, in front of about 85 people. The match ended in a ten minute draw and I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterday! (I got paid 30 dollars….a 20 & a 10!). I have had a wonderful, amazing, one in a million career since then…. and I wanna thank all of YOU from around the entire world for joining me for certain parts …or even all of it! And the Good news is….IT AIN’T OVER YET!” he wrote.
One of the most tenured and successful pro wrestlers in the history of the sport, Jericho first rose to prominence in WCW before signing with WWE in 1999, famously interrupting The Rock in his first appearance in the company. Along with runs in WCW, ECW, WWE, NJPW, ROH and AEW, Jericho has also captured championships in every one of these companies. In terms of AEW, Jericho was the biggest star when the company first launched back in 2019 and is widely credited as helping to establish the promotion as a serious contender to the mainstream. Jericho was also AEW’s inaugural World Champion.
What’s Next For Chris Jericho In The World Of Wrestling?
The first-ever AEW World Champion has been away from TV since April, following his loss to Bandido at Dynasty. Focusing on his band Fozzy, there still hasn’t been an indication as to when Jericho will be back on Dynamite. Interestingly, there have been persistent rumours over the past few months that Jericho is riding out the remainder of his contract to set up another WWE run soon.
