Roman Reigns now knows his opponent for SummerSlam, and it is someone with whom he is very familiar!
The World Heavyweight Champion made his return to TV on the June 29 Raw, but was interrupted by Seth Rollins. Following a back-and-forth between both men, it was confirmed that Rollins would challenge Reigns for the title at SummerSlam. While not announced, it is likely that this match will headline night 2 of the Premium Live Event.
Rollins spoke about their 14-year history, which began when they were both in The Shield. Rollins claimed that he was next in line, but Reigns retorted that Rollins has done nothing to earn the opportunity. Rollins responded by reminding Reigns of The Shield break-up and his cash-in at WrestleMania 31. Rollins stated that Reigns has done everything in WWE, but he hasn’t beaten him. It should be noted that on an episode of Raw in May 2017, Reigns did pick up a win over Rollins.
Reigns admitted that it has been a long time since he heard Rollins speak the truth, but he was right. Reigns stated that he needed to beat Rollins, leading to the match being made official.
During Reigns’ historic 1,316-day reign as World Champion, he put the title on the line against Rollins at the 2022 Royal Rumble. With Rollins’ mind games getting the best of Reigns, Rollins won the match via disqualification. However, as the title can’t change hands via DQ, Reigns remained the champion.
