The National Wrestling League will officially get underway on August 9 with round 1 kicking off in Newcastle.
Following a pre-season show in Middlesborough last month, the first round of fixtures in the football-inspired wrestling promotion will take place at the Vertu Arena in Newcastle.
Seven matches have been announced for the opening round, which will see the wrestlers representing the six teams in the league all look to obtain the maximum amount of points possible in the league.
The August 9 show will see Midlands Destroyers vs. Northeast Outlaws, Glasgow Hitmen vs. Yorkshire Titans, and London Executioners take on Manchester Manics.
The line-up is a who’s who from British wrestling and beyond as Wolfgang, Grado, Simon Miller, George Hunter, Rampage Brown and Luke menzies are among the names set to compete.
While D’Lo Brown was set to be the Yorkshire Titans player/coach for the opening round, the former Intercontinental Champion has suffered an injury prior to the show. Replacing Brown as the coach will be Andre Chase, best known for his time in NXT. Vusyk and Wesley Nsereko will be joined by a mystery partner to take on Grado, BT Gunn and Hugo Harris, who will be representing Glasgow Hitmen.
The format of the league is similar to English football. Matches will take place across a 15-minute time limit split into two 7 and a half minute halves. Wrestlers pick up or lose points via pinfall, submission, countout or DQ. Whichever wrestler has the most points at the end of the time limit will pick up 3 points for their team.
