More On Mariah May Leaving AEW

More information has been provided on Mariah May’s exit from AEW and the speculation that she will be joining WWE very soon.

On May 30th, fans noticed that May’s profile had been removed from the AEW roster page, which has been an indication over the years that a wrestler has departed the promotion. Shortly afterwards, multiple outlets confirmed that the former Women’s Champion had indeed left All Elite Wrestling and was expected to become a member of the WWE roster very soon.

Speaking about May as part of the F4WOnline Daily Update, Dave Meltzer elaborated on May’s departure, first noting that the British wrestler has always wanted to join WWE:

Her dream was always WWE, as was noted to us years ago when she was in Stardom. That’s why I was surprised she signed with AEW in the first place. It was a smart strategy on her part. If she had gone to WWE, she very well could have still been in developmental. Instead, she made a lot more money and got a chance to make herself into a legit major star, so she goes into WWE as, I don’t want to see a proven commodity because sometimes WWE dismisses outside work, but she does go in as a star and no doubt gets her dream of being in WWE and with a far higher profile, undoubtedly with more opportunity and obviously for far more money. It’s very clear doing the blow-off of the feud with Toni Storm early and never using her again was because they were aware she was leaving. To her credit, in her last match, she and Storm put on what could easily be called a legendary women’s match.

Continuing, Meltzer compared the departure to what happened with Stephanie Vaquer in 2024, which saw Vaquer sign with WWE shortly after losing to Mercedes Mone at AEW Forbidden Door 2024. Meltzer stated that much like Vaquer, May is favouring WWE as they would value the bigger moment over the higher salary:

It’s the same situation with Stephanie Vaquer, where she would have made more money elsewhere, in Vaquer’s case a lot more, but their dream was WWE. WWE counts on that, as the same reason they got May and Vaquer is also the same reason they didn’t get Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada, because of the belief they would value a WrestleMania moment above a larger paycheck or a bigger push.

When Will Mariah May Join WWE?

Although there has been no indication as to when the former AEW star will sign with WWE, the former Women’s Champion is now a free agent so could sign with the company or any promotion as soon as possible.

May’s final appearance saw her lose to Toni Storm in the Hollywood Ending match at AEW Revolution.
