MJF has addressed the Britt Baker confrontation that hit the headlines.
On August 2nd, Britt Baker was reportedly suspended from AEW following an alleged confrontation with the American Champion. While multiple reports claimed that the reason for the confrontation was that Baker made comments about Maxwell Jacob Friedman that was overheard by Friedman’s girlfriend Alicia Atout, misinformation has spread wildly since and has created numerous exaggerated accounts of what allegedly took place backstage.
Speaking with Jack King of Cultaholic about the incident, the former World Champion stated that a lot of what was reported is not true, adding that while he does not like everyone in AEW on a personal level, he does respect them:
“Tell me if this passes the smell test. I barge into a woman’s locker room. I scream in the face of an 110-pound woman, and then I physically threaten her by punching a wall in her vicinity…and I don’t get suspended. Does that pass the smell test to you? Almost everything that was written didn’t happen,” Friedman began.
“Everybody has co-workers at work they may not get along with. I have a feeling that this was blown out of proportion because all of the English wrestling commentary places that make money off of people like me, who are far more rich and talented and handsome and humble, need clickbait,” he continued.
“I can sit here and I can say wrestling is a very competitive sport. It breeds a level of insecurity like no other. However, I can easily put over any talent, regardless of whether or not I like them as a human being. I can sit here and I can tell you that Britt Baker vs. Mercedes Moné at Wembley on August 25th is going to be an epic match and we should all be excited to watch it. I don’t have to like all my coworkers and that’s fine. But yeah, dude, that sh*t was wild to read.”
It should be noted that a follow-up report by Fightful Select did state that MJF did punch a wall backstage but this was nowhere near Baker or the women’s locker room.
MJF Prepares For All In
Following on from his successful defence of the American title against Michael Oku at Rev Pro’s Summer Sizzler event on August 11th, Friedman’s next defence of the championship will be against Will Ospreay at All In. Taking place inside Wembley Stadium, Ospreay will very much have the home advantage for their rematch.
