Mariah May has fulfilled her destiny at AEW All In.
Competing in Wembley Stadium for the first time, just 11 miles away from her home town of Islington, May defeated “Timeless” Toni Storm to capture the Women’s Championship for the first time in her career as more than 50,000 fans watched on.
Although May was the hometown hero, Storm was clearly the fan favourite in Wembley. Descending into a fistfight seconds after the bell rang, May got the better of the first exchange. May continued the assault throughout and also spat in the face of Luther, who made his return to accompany Storm to the ring. Storm had a couple of hope spots but May continued to have an answer for everything. That changed when May was slammed into the steps and busted open, allowing Storm to get some shots in for revenge.
The closing moments of the match saw May hit multiple knees to Storm’s head and a Storm Zero to win the title.
The victory brings Storm’s third reign as champion to an end at 276 days, the third longest in the history of the championship.
Mariah May Calls For “Timeless” Toni Storm To Roll The Credits
Back in November 2023, May was introduced to the AEW fans on Dynamite. Almost instantly, the former Goddesses of Stardom Champion stated that she idolised Toni Storm and wanted to meet her. Eventually introduced to Storm, May was named as an understudy for the “Timeless” one and would occasionally cosplay as Storm in a striking resemblance. While fans knew that the alliance would not last and the split was inevitable, May and Storm appeared to be on the same page for the next 6 months plus, even with the addition of Stardom star Mina Shirakawa.
On July 10th, the finals of the 2024 Owen Hart Cup took place, which saw May defeat Willow Nightingale and win the tournament. Almost instantly after the match, May betrayed Storm and attacked her with the heel of a shoe to leave the now former Women’s Champion bloodied.
