John Cena has admitted that it would take an extreme amount of money from Elon Musk to make him have one more professional wrestling match.
In late 2025, the 17-time World Champion brought his career to an end following a loss to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Culminating a year-long retirement tour, Cena has vowed never to wrestle again. While Cena has appeared on WWE TV multiple times, there have been no teases of one more match, nor has the Hollywood star gotten physical since.
Although Cena has reiterated that he will remain retired from wrestling, history has made that hard to believe. Many wrestlers have competed in retirement matches, but have gone on to make comebacks. From Ric Flair to Shawn Michaels and famously, Terry Funk, only a select few have remained true to their word.
With Cena one of the biggest stars of the 21st century, many believe that the WWE legend will step in the ring at least one more time. However, according to the man himself, it would take more money than most wouldn’t earn in a lifetime.
“Until Elon Musk Gives Me His Fortune, I Will Stay Retired”: John Cena
Appearing at SpaceCon San Antonio, Cena quipped that unless he were given a lot of Elon Musk’s fortune, he would remain retired until further notice:
“I’m going to put this in terms the room hopefully understands. I cannot speak in absolutes, I don’t control that. But I think the only person that can convince me to come back given recent events would be Mr. Elon Musk. He’d have to give up a whole lot of his fortune to do so. So, until he does that, I think I’m going to stay retired.”
Musk is currently the richest man on Earth. The entrepreneur’s net worth is $1.4 trillion, making him the first trillionaire in history.
