Interim Women's Champion Crowned At WWE SummerSlam

WWE SmackDown now has an interim Women’s Champion following the event that took place at SummerSlam.

When all was said and done in the ladder match on night two, Chelsea Green unhooked the championship to win the title for the first time in her career. Green outlasted Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, Charlotte Flair and Lash Legend t win the title on the blue brand.

The closing moments of the match saw Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend fall to the floor from a ladder, as well as Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair, who were battling on another ladder. Green recovered the climb the ladder and win the Interim Women’s Championship.

Speaking on the post-show, Green “dedicated” her big win to backstage producer Michael Hayes. The comment was in reference to an episode of WWE Unreal, where Hayes claimed that Green was not a top star.

Green previously held the Women’s Tag Team Championship and was the first-ever Women’s US Champion, but this is her first reign with the top title.

The current Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is currently dealing with a knee injury. Instead of vacating the championship, WWE made the decision to crown an interim champion. When Ripley has recovered, she will face the interim champion to determine an undisputed Women’s Champion.
