Chad Gable has continued his excellent year with a big win at WWE SummerSlam 2026.
Competing on night 2 of the Premium Live Event in Minnesota, Gable defeated Penta to become the new Intercontinental Champion. The closing moment of the match saw Gable force Penta to tap to the ankle lock. After the match, Gable celebrated the big win with his family.
This was a mirror result to January 2025, where Penta defeated Chad Gable in his WWE debut match.
The victory marks Gable’s first singles championship in WWE. The Minnesotan native has previously held tag team gold on the main roster, but not individually.
The title change also brings Penta’s reign to an end at 149 days. Penta won the title back in March 2026 with a win over Dominik Mysterio. The title change occurred on the same night that Mysterio was cursed by Danhausen.
Chad Gable Picks Up Another Huge Win At SummerSlam
The victory comes just a few months after the rivalry of the year concluded in AAA. At the start of the year, Gable made his return as the original El Grande Americano. This started a feud with the new El Grande Americano, who is portrayed by Ludwig Kaiser in a mask.
The rivalry came to an end at AAA’s Noche de Los Grandes, where both men faced off in a mask vs. mask match. Gable lost the bout, which received acclaim from both fans and critics. The match will also be a strong contender for best of the year in many publication awards.
