A former WWE star who was released from the company a few months ago has spoken out on struggling to get booked since becoming a free agent.
Released from the promotion back in November 2024, Nixon Newell, previously known as Tegan Nox, became a free agent in early 2025. Returning to the independents in March, Newell has competed for ATTACK! wrestling along with NWW in her home country of Wales. However, when it comes to securing more appearances, the former WWE star has admitted that progress has been slow.
Appearing on Wrestling in the Middle, the former Tegan Nox was asked about free agency, to which she responded that it has been a struggle to book more shows:
“Not great, if I’m being honest. Severe lack of bookings. Not sure where that’s from, but the bookings that I have done, like I’ve been home to Attack [Pro Wrestling], which has been phenomenal. Got to wrestle Dani Luna, who’s been on my list, God, for years since she first started training I could tell she was going to be something special. So she’s been on my list for a very, very long time, so I’m glad that one was in the books at least. But, yeah, it’s been slow. Hopefully it picks up soon, because it’s a nightmare [laughs]. But hopefully soon it gets better.”
It should be noted that as Newell is a UK citizen and no longer signed to a USA-based promotion, it is more difficult to get bookings in the States as opposed to someone who lives in America would have.
Also in the interview, Newell admitted that she had mixed feelings over the release but is is ready to wrestle again, adding that she is looking to dispel the myth surrounding her previous injuries:
“Did I want it to happen? Yes and no. In a sense of, no, that was my dream job. I’ve wanted that since I was a kid. All my friends worked there at the time. But, yes, I wanted to wrestle, which, you know, still hasn’t panned out great. But at least now I can do what I want to do and have fun with wrestling again. Instead of just being stuck in the same story with the knees, which was the most disheartening thing to constantly keep doing when my knees — I haven’t been injured with my knees since 2019, whenever the last knee surgery was. That was the last time I was hurt with my knees. So it wasn’t like they were injured at all, you know?”
Could Former WWE Star Nixon Newell Become All Elite?
Given her run in WWE, there is the possibility that AEW could be interested in the Welsh wrestler. However, when asked about this in the interview, Newell was not as confident it would happen:
“I’m interested, I’d love to go there,” she said. “But as far as I know, I don’t think there’s an interest from them, which is a shame. But I would love to go there.”
