Cody Rhodes has spoken about the amount of information pro wrestling companies give fans, noting that it might be too much.
Although pro wrestling is not as secretive as it once was, the way that fans watch the show has changed drastically over the past few years. With the rise of the internet and docuseries like Unreal, some fans have become more invested than ever before. However, while this satisfies those who want to delve deep into the industry and find out as much information as possible, the WWE Champion feels it might have the opposite effect.
Why Cody Rhodes Fears An “Overload Of Information” In WWE
Speaking on his What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast, Rhodes spoke about the current presentation. The second-generation star admitted that while he watches the show from an entertainment standpoint, others like to know a lot more, which can take away from their enjoyment:
“Now, everything is documented. It’s scary. It’s scary, but it also holds you accountable. I’m in my head about some of the things of late where every single piece of WWE right now, and every wrestling company, somebody needs to share and put it out there. I think what’s going to happen is an overload of information to the point where fans just stop caring. ‘I watch the show, I like the show, I like this guy, I don’t like that guy.’ I don’t need to know how many people were in the seats. It’s wild. I don’t know who is keeping all these records, but I’m getting tired of, ‘What do we need this for? Who is this for?’ It seems like it’s doing great.”
Rhodes is still the WWE Champion after defeating Randy Orton in the main event of WrestleMania 42 night 1. The lead-up to the match was hit with heavy fan backlash due to the involvement of Pat McAfee. McAfee did appear during the match, but was dispatched by Orton.
Rhodes is not scheduled to make an appearance at Backlash on May 9.
