CM Punk Comments On Possible Steve Austin Match Following Recent Teases

Could the highly-requested match between CM Punk and Steve Austin finally happen?

Many times in wrestling history have 2 stars been present in the same era and interacted with each other but never got the opportunity to actually have that match. From Sting vs. The Undertaker to Shawn Michaels vs. The Rock, some matches were just never meant to be. Back in June 2011, Punk vs. Austin was also added to that list of dream matches that never happened following an interaction between them both on an episode of Raw. With Austin retired at that point, it seemed that the match could only happen in the videogame. However, over the next 13 years, a lot has changed in the wrestling world.

In 2022, Austin returned to the ring once again as he faced off against Kevin Owens 19 years on from his previous match. With fans loving The Rattlesnake’s comeback match, many were hopeful that there would be a few more appearances from the Hall of Famer in the near future. While Austin has not been seen in a WWE ring since, he did tease that WrestleMania 41 is not far from his ranch and he intends to be at the show:

“I Couldn’t make it down on that one [WrestleMania 40] but WrestleMania this year [2025] is in Vegas. I was doing an interview a while back and that’s 400 miles [away], that’s right here where we are sitting. So it will be in Vegas, I hope to be there this year.”

CM Punk Addresses Steve Austin Match

With CM Punk also now back in WWE following his shock return at Survivor Series, hope has once again been ignited on that Austin match. While Austin has not teased a challenge from Punk, the Chicago native was still asked about the possibility.

Speaking with The Masked Man Show while at Fanatics Fest in New York, Punk said the following regarding an Austin match:

“That would be up to Steven, it’s not up to me because I think he had a pretty good return, came back, main event’ed WrestleMania. At this point, his six shooters might be buried in the Nevada desert, but if he wants to dig them up, I’m your huckleberry. It should have happened 10-plus years ago but if he wants to go to sleep, he can call me.”
