After nearly 10 years away, CM Punk is back in WWE.
The return that many fans thought would never happen did indeed happen at the end of Survivor Series 2023. Just as the copyright logo flashed up on the screen and it looked as if the show was about to go off the air, Cult of Personality rang through The Allstate Arena and CM Punk walked out in front of the Chicago crowd to a rapturous ovation.
Punk infamously left WWE the night after the Royal Rumble in 2014 due to creative frustrations. Frequently taking shots at his old employer, many believed that this day would never come, especially when Punk joined AEW in 2021. However, the relationship between Punk and AEW management would quickly deteriorate over the next year and Punk would be suspended before returning in June and ultimately fired in September 2023.
Rumours of Punk’s WWE return circulated ever since the firing was publicly announced by Tony Khan, with many fans online desperate to link what they saw on TV with a Punk return. Many thought that they would never see Punk again, but as history has proven, nearly everyone eventually comes back.
