WWE Hall of Famer and one half of The Wild Samoans Afa Anoa’i has died at 81 years of age.
The news was broken by his son Samu Anoa’i, who posted the following on his Facebook page:
“It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of my father Afa Anoai Sr. It was a peaceful transition and he was surrounded by loved ones. Please respect our privacy as we morn our father.”
Teaming with his brother Sika, The Wild Samoans dominated the tag team division in the territories in the 70s and 80s and would also win the WWE Tag Team Championships on 3 seperate occasions. One of the most feared tag teams at the time and in the history of the business, The Wild Samoans were recognised for their accomplishments in 2007 when they were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Looking to leave a lasting legacy, Afa would later manage The Headshrinkers while also opening The Wild Samoan Training Center to teach future wrestlers. Afa and Sika were last seen on WWE TV in 2020 when they officially acknowledged Roman Reigns as their Tribal Chief.
Afa’s brother Sika sadly passed away earlier in the year back in June.
Roman Reigns Comments On Afa Anoa’i Passing
Anoa’i’s nephew and WWE star Roman Reigns took to social media to comment on the passing of the Hall of Famer and thanked everyone for their support:
“Our family has suffered another great loss with the passing of my uncle and WWE Hall of Famer, Gataivasā Afa Amituana’i Anoa’i. We thank everyone for their support and are comforted by the fact that he now rests in peace. Afa and my father, Pola’ivao Leati Sika Anoa’I were loving brothers, the greatest tag team of their generation, and now they’re reunited together in heaven. Rest in Power Wild Samoans.”
Features of Wrestling would like to send out condolences to the family and friends of Afa Anoa’i at this time.
