Carlito Talks WWE Departure, Viral Bron Breakker Spear, & Retirement Timeline

Former WWE star Carlito has addressed his exit from the company and being broken in half by Bron Breakker!

In June 2025, the former Intercontinental and United States Champion let fans know on social media that his contract would not be renewed when it expired. Making his return at Backlash 2023 in Puerto Rico, the update brought Carlito’s second WWE run to an end.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, Carlito was asked if he was surprised about the news:

“No [I wasn’t surprised], because my contract expired.”

When it was brought up that the contract could have been renewed, the former WWE star stated that there were no conversations regarding this, while also adding that he had signed a shorter deal than usual:

“They could have renewed it, but I never went to them. They never came to me. So we never spoke or anything. I just was ready for whatever. I kind of shot myself in the foot because I signed the shorter deal and the usual. So I guess I bet against myself.”

“I signed for two years. They wanted me for three, and I signed for two because I didn’t think it was gonna go as good as it did. So, as I said, I bet against myself, and I would have got an extra year, and then my contract would expire. But ended up losing a year. But that’s all right.”

During his second run with the company, Carlito spent most of his run with The Judgment Day faction. While he did not win any championships during this time, he was involved in a number of notable moments. One moment that stood out was Bron Breakker running full speed at Carlito and delivering a devastating spear:

When asked about the spear, Carlito joked that it still hurt today, adding that he saw the online reaction:

“Yeah, he’s fast, and it still hurts today. But I’m glad everyone had a little viral moment there. I saw the memes, it was funny.”

How Much Longer Does Former WWE Star Carlito Want To Wrestle?

Having made his WWE debut back in 2004 and competing all around the world for more than 2 decades, the former United States Champion is closer to the end of his career than the beginning. When asked about plans to wind down, Carlito noted that he would likely bring things to an end within the next 5 years:

“No, probably around 5 [years]. 5 should be the goal.”

Following his exit from WWE, Carlito now performs for WWC [World Wrestling Council] in Puerto Rico, along with other independent appearances.
