AEW Dynamite Results April 22: World Title On The Line

The World Championship was on the line and more on the April edition of AEW Dynamite to continue the build to Double or Nothing.

A week ago, Darby Allin defeated MJF in a shocking fashion to win the AEW World Championship for the first time in his career. One week on from his historic victory, Allin had his first title defence as he put the championship on the line against Tommaso Ciampa.

Additionally, MJF appeared live to address his loss, and Will Ospreay faced former friend Mark Davis.

Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness were on commentary.

AEW Dynamite Results April 22:

  • Following a recap of Darby Allin winning the World Championship the previous week, MJF trmed to the ring. MJF demanded respect and claimed he was screwed out of his championship. Kevin Knight interrupted and spoke about being a fighting champion. Knight also claimed that he should be World Champion after nearly beating MJF a few weeks ago. MJF mocked Knight’s promo and Knight responded that he wasn’t worthy of holding the TNT Championship. MJF looked to be set for an impromptu TNT Title match, but faked it and announced it would be next week.
  • Brody King defeated Lio Rush.
  • Hikaru Shida defeated Mina Shirakawa.
  • Adam Copeland issued a challenge for Double or Nothing to FTR. If he and Christian can’t beat FTR, they will retire.
  • Mark Davis defeated Will Ospreay via referee stoppage as Ospreay sold his neck injury. Davis tried to continue the assault but was stopped by The Deathriders.
  • Samoa Joe returned to action and won a squash match against a local competitor.
  • Darby Allin defeated Tommaso Ciampa to retain the AEW World Championship.
