Darby Allin has finally captured the AEW World Championship after defeating MJF in the main event of Dynamite.
Headlining the Spring BreakThru special on April 15, Allin captured the title after hitting 4 Coffin Drops and a headlock takeover onto Maxwell Jacob Friedman. The headlock takeover was a callback to a previous match between Allin and MJF at Full Gar 2021, which saw MJF beat Allin with a headlock takeover after striking Allin with a Dynamite Diamond Ring.
The locker room celebrated with the new champion after the match, with Sting later joining longtime friend Allin in the ring. The Icon spoke to Allin before the match, stating that it wasn’t showtime, but Allin’s time.
The victory marks Allin’s first reign with the top prize in All Elite Wrestling, and brings MJF’s second reign to an end. MJF won the title for a second time at Worlds End 2025, and held the gold for 109 days. Allin is a former TNT and Tag Team Champion.
Darby Allin Wins AEW World Championship After Earning Opportunity At Dynasty
At Dynasty, Allin defeated Andrade El Idolo to become the new number one contender to the World Championship. At the start of Dynamite, MJF arrived and seemed to be oblivious to the fact that he had a title defence that night. However, after being informed of the news by Renee Paquette, MJF became incensed and stormed to the ring, as the match was scheduled to kick off the show. However, following a war of words between the 2, Brayn Danielson relayed a message from Tony Khan that the match would instead take place in the main event, so that MJF had time to prepare.
