Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser [formerly known as Marcel Barthel] have arrived on Friday Night SmackDown, making their appearance on the April 8th SmackDown after WrestleMania.
Kaiser would accompany Gunther as The Ring General would compete in a squash match against Joe Alonzo. Gunther would hit his signature chops and big boots before being victorious with a powerbomb.
Gunther was previously known as WALTER in NXT until is was decided earlier in the year to change the former United Kingdom Champion’s name to Gunther. The decision was not well received by the WWE Universe, with heavy boos ringing out through the live crowd when they had heard the name change. In NXT UK, WALTER dominated the division and held the WWE United Kingdom Championship for 870 days, before being defeated by Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36.
This is not Gunther’s first appearance on the main roster. The former WALTER would answer Seth Rollin’s open challenge when NXT invaded Raw and SmackDown in the build to Survivor Series 2019.
