A title match, the final show before Backlash and what will likely be the end of The Gingerbread Man angle on the May 8 WWE SmackDown.

After Sami Zayn “killed off” the Gingerbread Man the previous week, WWE announced that there would be a funeral on the show. Additionally, Tiffany Stratton put her Women’s US Championship on the line against Kiana James, and Danhausen looked for a tag partner. On May 9, Danhausen will face Kit Wilson and The Miz.

Other notable matches announced included Damian Priest vs. Talla Tonga, along with Rhea Ripley teaming with Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss to take on Fatal Influence.

Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett were on commentary. Mark Nash was the ring announcer.

WWE SmackDown Results May 8:

  • Following a recap of the Jacob Fatu and Roman Reigns rivalry, Fatu officially kicked off the show. Fatu spoke about everyone seeing Roman Reigns as the future. The Usos interrupted. Jimmy admitted he was rooting for Fatu, but was concerned about what would happen if he lost. Jey said that, like Fatu, he doesn’t think things through. Fatu promised to burn the family tree down if The Usos interfere.
  • Tiffany Stratton defeated Kiana James to retain her Women’s United States Championship.
  • Talla Tonga defeated Damian Priest.
  • Guther was about to sign a contract for a future WWE Championship match, but Cody Rhodes made is way to the ring. Rhodes called out Gunther but Paul Heyman interrupted. Rhodes said he wanted a fight, to which Heyman responded that the title shot was his favour to Gunther. Gunther tried to attack Rhodes, but the WWE Champion stood tall.
  • A video package saw the Gingerbread Man photoshopped into previous iconic WWE moments.
  • Ricky Saints defeated Matt Cardona.
  • Paige and Brie Bella appeared live. Fatal Influence interrupted, followed by Nia Jax and Lash Legend. The Irresistible Forces beat down the champions.
  • Fatal Influence defeated Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley. Jade Cargill attacked Ripley during the match to allow the heels to win.
  • Royce Keys defeated Tama Tonga.
  • After stealing a strand of Brie Bella’s hair earlier, Danhausen tried to clone himself so he would have a partner for Backlash.
  • The Gingerbread Man funeral was the main event segment. Sami Zayn interrupted and spoke about how much money Trick Williams must have spent on this. The Gingerbread Man sat up, revealing it was Lil Yachty in the costume. Yachty attacked Zayn and Trick Williams hit Zayn with a trick shot.
