Two more matches were added to the WWE Backlash card on the May 1 SmackDown.
With the next Premium Live Event just over a week away, the May 1 show focused on the build to the show. With 3 matches added to Backlash on the last episode of Raw, SmackDown added a title match and what looks set to be Danhausen’s PLE in-ring debut.
Additionally, BrieBella and Paige defended their Women’s Tag Team Championships, and Cody Rhodes officially kicked off the show.
Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett were on commentary. Mark Nash was the ring announcer.
WWE SmackDown Results May 1:
- Following a recap of the angle between Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu on Raw, Cody Rhodes officially kicked off the show. The American Nightmare announced that he had been cleared to compete by WWE’s medical staff. Ricky Saints interrupted. Saints bragged about his accomplishments. Rhodes asked what the difference was between this Saints and the last time they faced off. Saints responded that Rhodes has aged 30 years since becoming champion due to the wear and tear. Rhodes announced he would face Saints later tonight.
- Jacy Jayne defeated Charlotte Flair. Fatal Influence attacked Flair and Alexa Bliss after the bell, but Rhea Ripley made the save.
- Damian Priest and R-Truth defeated Fraxiom to retain the Tag Team Championships. The MFTs attacked all 4 ment after the bell.
- Solo Sikoa spoke about Jacob Fatu attacking their family. The Usos interrupted and agreed they also had a Fatu problem. The MFTs attacked The Usos.
- Cody Rhodes defeated Ricky Saints. Gunther attacked Rhodes after the match.
- Danhausen appeared live. The Miz and Kit Wilson interrupted and it appeared that Miz was about to side with Danhausen, but it was a trap to take out Danhausen. The Miz and Kit Wilson vs. Danhausen and a mystery partner was later announced for Backlash.
- Royce Keys defeated Angel.
- Sami Zayn destroyed the gingerbread costume. Trick Williams tried to attack Zayn, but Zayn fled. Williams vs. Zayn for the US Title was later announced for Backlash.
- Paige and Brie Bella defeated Nia Jax and Lash Legend to retain the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
- The Usos vs. The MFTs went to a no contest when Jacob Fatu interfered. Fatu put Talla Tonga through the announce table.
Also on May 1, WWE NXT hosted a live event in Lakeland, FL.
