A huge title match, the fallout from Elimination Chamber continued and more took place on the March 6 WWE SmackDown.
The main event of Elimination Chamber saw WWE Champion Drew McIntyre interfere in the Men’s Chamber match, resulting in Randy Orton picking up the win. As a result of the interference, Nick Aldis announced that McIntyre would put his title on the line against Rhodes on the next episode of SmackDown.
Additionally, Women’s Elimination Chamber winner Rhea Ripley appeared live to meet her WrestleMania opponent, WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill, face-to-face.
Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett were on commentary for the show.
WWE SmackDown Results March 6:
- Following a recap of Elimination Chamber, Randy Orton officially opened the show. Orton talked about his upcoming match at WrestleMania and all those who have inspired him, but was interrupted by Trick Williams. Orton hit Williams with an RKO seconds after Williams got in the ring.
- Carmelo Hayes defeated AAA star Hijo Del Dr. Wagner Jr. to retain the United States Championship in an open challenge.
- New Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Lash Legend celebrated their victory, but were interrupted by Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair and Giulia and Kiana James. This led to a tag team match.
- Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss defeated Giulia and Kiana James, likely meaning that Bliss and Flair are due a title match soon.
- A tag team turmoil match took place to determine the new number one contenders to the Tag Team Championships, which was won by R-Truth and Damian Priest. The order of eliminations was as follows:
- Nathan Frazer and Axiom defeated Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley
- Angel and Berto defeated Frazer and Axiom
- Angel and Berto defeated Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis
- Damian Priest and R-Truth defeated Angel and Berto
- Jade Cargill and Rhea Ripley met face-to-face. Cargill shook Ripley’s hand and said she respects her for what she has done, but promised to win at WrestleMania. Ripley responded that she respected her honesty, but said that Cargill’s body is only built for show while hers was built for fighting.
- Johnny Gargano looked to find himself and issued a challenge to anyone in the back, which was answered by Oba Femi. Femi squahsed Gargano.
- Danhausen met with Nick Aldis backstage and asked for a mentor, which was answered by The Miz. Danhausen cursed Miz.
- Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre to win the WWE Championship. Multiple referees were taken out and Jacob Fatu interfered to allow Rhodes to pick up the victory. It will now be Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42.
