The fallout from Night of Champions, the new Undisputed Champion appeared live and more on the July 3 WWE SmackDown.
Night of Champions ended in shocking fashion as Sami Zayn pinned Cody Rhodes to become the new WWE Champion. Zayn celebrated his victory on the show, but alos found out when he would be next putting the title on the line.
Additionally, Rey Fenix defended the AAA Cruiserweight Championship, and Lainey Reid faced Brie Bella.
The show was pre-taped ahead of time to give the roster and staff an extended break for the July 4 weekend. The tapings took place after the June 29 Raw went off the air.
Michael Cole and Corey Graves were on commentary for the show.

- Following a recap of Night of Champions, Sami Zayn officially opened the show. Zayn thanked those who stood by him, but also noted that those who booed him were the ones who called for him to be champion years earlier. Zayn said that he did things his way and the right way. Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso interrupted, setting up the main event between the two to determine the new number one contender.

- Cody speaks with Finn Balor backstage. Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga attacked Finn after Cody walks away
- Cody Rhodes def. Jey Uso to become the new Number One Contendership For Undisputed WWE Championship. Cody will face Sami on the July 7 episode of Raw.
