Former WWE Champion Big E has detailed one option after suffering a broken neck that would have rendered him disabled.
In March 2022, Big E suffered the injury on SmackDown after taking an overhead suplex from Ridge Holland on the outside of the ring. Although the former World Champion suffered a broken neck, he was able to avoid surgery.
While he is still able to maintain a high quality of life, doctors have advised Big E to never wrestle again. The WWE panellist has taken this advice on board, as he has not wrestled in over 4 years. Additionally, Big E has made it clear that he will likely never wrestle again, ensuring that fans don’t get their hopes up for something that won’t happen.
As part of his road to recovery, the former New Day member was given multiple options regarding treatment. During the early stages, one treatment would have reduced his quality of life substantially.
Big E Says He Would Have Been Disabled In His 30s
While speaking with Sam Roberts, the former WWE Champion recalled the option of having his C1 and C2 fused via surgery. However, this option would have reduced momentum in his neck, meaning that he would be unable to drive:
“At one point, they were talking about screwing into my skull to put a halo. When my neck wasn’t initially healing in that 4 to 6 week period the way they wanted it to, a halo was on the table. Another doctor talked to me about the option of fusing my C1 and C2. He told me because of the fusion would be so high up, I wouldn’t have much rotation in my neck. So effectively, I would be disabled, I wouldn’t be able to drive. The idea of needing to be driven, I’m in my 30s still. Not being able to ever drive again because I don’t have enough rotation in my head, those things, I never fixated on them because of the medication and mindfulness.”
In a previous interview, Big E spoke about The New Day’s breakup and the lack of follow-up.
