The first WWE SmackDown after WrestleMania 40.
Rounding out the fallout from the biggest WWE show of the year, the show aired live from Detroit. Following on from his success in Philadelphia, the new Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes was set to appear live once more. Additionally, new WWE Women’s Champion Bayley was set to appear live to celebrate her victory.
The Following Results Took Place On WWE SmackDown:
- Cody Rhodes opened the show and addressed The Rock’s introduction from the Raw after WrestleMania. Rhodes then turned his attention to the two triple threat matches that have been booked for the show, which will ultimately determine his challenge for Backlash.
- Paul Heyman discussed bringing the championship back to The Bloodline
- LA Knight defeated Bobby Lashley to advance in the number one contenders matches
- Paul Heyman, Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso addressed the WrestleMania loss. Heyman said that there were no excuses for what happened at WrestleMania and that they accept accountability. Solo Sikoa interrupted and stated that there are consequences for losing and change is required, turning his attention to Jimmy Uso. Sikoa and Uso embraced before Sikoa was jumped by Tama Tonga. Heyman looked on shocked as Tonga and Sikoa beat down Uso. Heyman tried to call Reigns but Sikoa broke Heyman’s phone.
- Bron Breakker defeated Cameron Grimes
- Bayley came out to celebrate her victory before being interrupted by Tiffany Stratton and Naomi. This led to a match where Naomi defeated Stratton.
- Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair defeated Chelsea Green and Piper Niven. This was Niven’s return match from injury
- AJ Styles defeated Rey Mysterio and Kevin Owens. Knight vs. Styles will face off next week with the winner becoming the new number once contender to Rhodes’ championship.
