Bayley Wins WWE Women’s Championship At WrestleMania 40

Bayley

Bayley has made her singles debut at WrestleMania a memorable one.

In the penultimate match of WrestleMania night 2, Bayley defeated Iyo Sky to become the new Women’s Champion and kicked off her 4th reign as champion. Receiving a special entrance and new music, the match felt like a rebirth for the former Damage CTRL member, very much ushering in the next iteration of her character.

With Sky targeting the injured knee throughout, the challenger was effectively fighting the match on one leg for the majority of it. Countering the Roseplant and hitting her with everything she got, Sky looked to have the match in control. However, fighting through the pain, the former leader of Damage CTRL took down the champion to finally have her Wrestlemania moment after more than 10 years with the company.

After years of being placed in multi-women matches, the new champion finally got her one-on-one match at Mania and made it one to remember.

Bayley Continues Strong 2024

Kicking off the year strong, Bayley earned her opportunity to advance to WrestleMania with a victory in the Women’s Royal Rumble match. After initially looking like Rhea Ripley would be the champion of choice, the SmackDown star chose Iyo Sky after realising what Damage CTRL was saying about her.

This was the third title change of the night as Drew McIntyre won the World Heavyweight Championship, before Damian Priest spoiled the party.
