The road to SummerSlam officially began on the July 14 edition of WWE Raw.
Now that Saturday Night’s Main Event and Evolution is in the books, Raw shifted focus to the 2-night Premium Live Event scheduled to take place in the first weekend in August. With Gunther successfully defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Goldberg, a gauntlet match took place to determine who is next for The Ring General.
With Evolution ending with the shocking angle of Naomi cashing in her Money in the Bank contract to become the new Women’s Champion, Raw’s newest star also appeared live.
Michael Cole and Corey Graves were on commentary for the show.
WWE Raw Results July 14:
- Following a video package recapping Saturday Night’s Main Event and Evolution, Naomi officially kicked off the show. After bragging about her victory and the move to Raw, the new champion was interrupted by Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY, with both arguing as to who should be first in line for a title match. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce interrupted and announced that a triple threat match would take place at SummerSlam.
- Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez defeated Kairi Sane and Asuka.
- Lyra Valkyria defeated Bayley ina 2 out of 3 falls match, earning another opportunity at Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch at SummerSlam.
- Nikki Bella defeated Chelsea Green. The Secret Hervice attacked Bella after the match until Stephanie Vaquer made the save.
- Adam Pearce told Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio that his rib injury would be evaluated next week. If Mysterio is cleared then his match with AJ Styles will be likely be given a date.
- Gunther cut a promo about beating Goldberg. Bron Breakker interrupted ahead of the gauntlet match in the main event.
- CM Punk won the gauntlet to face Gunther at SummerSlam. The order of eliminations was as follows: Bron Breakker eliminated Penta, Bron Breakker eliminated LA Knight, Bron Breakker eliminated Jey Uso, and CM Punk eliminated Bron Breakker. Punk was attacked by Breakker and Reed after the match until a returning Roman Reigns made the save to stand tall.
