An upcoming WWE NXT taping has seen the venue change following a cancellation on short notice.
The company is set to take over Tampa, FL over May Bank Holiday weekend with Saturday Night’s Main Event, Battleground and Raw all set to take place in the city. However, while the original plans were for an NXT taping to also be included in the line-up this is no longer the case.
In an update on Ticketmaster’s page, WWE has made the decision to cancel the event
Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event.
You don’t need to do a thing. We’ll issue a refund to the
original method of payment used at time of purchase, as soon as funds are received from the Event Organizer. It should appear on your account within 14-21 days.Please Note: If the tickets were transferred to you, the refund will go to the fan who originally purchased the tickets from Ticketmaster.
While there has been no official reason behind the cancellation, social media account WrestleTix notes that 1,700 tickets were sold for the event, meaning that low sales is likely the reason.
On the May 20th episode of NXT, announcer Vic Joseph stated that the next episode of the show would air from its usual home of the Performance Center in Orlando, FL as opposed to the Yuengling Center in Tampa.
WWE NXT Battleground To Take Place This Weekend
More matches were added to the Battleground PLE on May 20th, taking the card up to 6 matches. The updated line-up is as follows:
- Oba Femi (c) vs. Myles Borne – Singles match for the NXT Championship
- Stephanie Vaquer (c) Jordynne Grace – Singles match for the NXT Women’s Championship
- Joe Hendry (c) vs. Trick Williams – Singles match for the TNA World Championship
- Sol Ruca (c) vs. Kelani Jordan – Singles match for the NXT Women’s North American Championship
- Tony D’Angelo vs. Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo
- Shawn Spears, Brooks Jensen, and Niko Vance vs. Josh Briggs, Hank Walker, and Tank Ledger
