The WWE Vault YouTube channel has become one of the most popular services for hardcore wrestling fans, and the Head of Digital has taken notice.
Launching on YouTube in May 2024, the Vault channel is now the official destination for classic matches, hidden gems and never-before-seen footage of matches and promos from previous eras. Approaching 3,000 uploads and with more than 4 million subscribers, the channel has gained somewhat of a cult following among fans seeking out footage from the past. Ahead of the highly anticipated mask vs. mask match between the original and the El Grande Americanos on May 30 at AAA’s Noche de Los Grandes, Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio presented his first mask vs. mask match that took place back in 1992.
The match was the first of its kind in AAA, with Mysterio only being 17 years old when the contest took place.
Front Office Sports published a story on May 29 highlighting the use of WWE’s YouTube channels, focusing on the AAA show being broadcast on the platform. Speaking with WWE’s Head of Digital Media Steve Braband, the executive noted that they were able to double down on a niche with footage they already had. Braband added that he was shocked at how popular some of the videos perform:
“The success of that came with no new resources [needed],” Braband said. “We tapped into a few people that were passionate about our archive, saw the engagement on our main channel, and just moved our whole vault to this page. We’re about to hit the four-million sub mark—and it shocks me every week how some content does.”
What Is The Most Popular Match On The WWE Vault Channel?
At the time of writing, the Extreme Rules 2019 bout between The Undertaker & Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre sits at the top spot. The match currently has more than 34 million views.
WWE also launched a separate channel dedicated to The Undertaker.
