Live from Spain, the May 29 WWE SmackDown was the first TV taping as part of the latest European tour.
Fresh off a live event in Liverpool the night before, SmackDown will see WWE Champion Cody Rhodes appear live to address his next challenger, Gunther. The Ring General is once again looking for a top championship, and will face The American Nightmare at Clash in Italy.
Additionally, Spain’s own Axiom will take on The Miz.
With Clash in Italy set to take place 48 hours later, the Premium Live Event will be the main focus of the show.
SmackDown will air on Netflix for international viewers, while those in the United States will still have to wait for the standard 8 pm broadcast. Lilian Garcia is the ring announcer.
Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett are on commentary for the show.
WWE SmackDown Live Results May 29:
- Opening the show and the fans are loud! After shots of the star arriving played, commentary hyped up the show. Following a recap of Saturday Night’s Main Event, Jade Cargill opened the show flanked by Michin and B-Fab. The trio were heavily booed by the fans. Rhea Ripley interrupted to a huge ovation from the fans. Ripley said that Cargill uses people, but when she is on her own she can’t beat her. Cargill tried to respond but was drowned out by boos and “shut the f*ck up” chants. Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair interrupted. Flair defended Ripley and Bliss said that Cargill has the ego of a champion, but the resume of a rookie. Bliss threatened to embarrass Cargill, but Nick Aldis interrupted. Aldis then made Bliss vs. Cargill official.
- Back from break and the match got started. Bliss got the upper hand at first until Cargill overpowered her. On the outside Cargill powerbombed Bliss onto the barricade, possibly making contact with security in the process. Bliss evaded an attack from Cargill, causing Cargill to go into the steel steps. Bliss got a nearfall, but B-Fab and Michin tripped Bliss. Ripley and Flair brawled with B-Fab and Michin to the back. Bliss went for Twisted Bliss, but Cargill got the knees up. Cargill hit the Jaded for the win. Cargill hit another Jaded onto Bliss on a chair after the match.
- Backstage, Cody Rhodes looked to talk about Gunther, but Sami Zayn interrupted. Zayn claimed that Rhodes betrayed him, with Rhodes firing back that Zayn did not help him when he was being attacked by Gunther. Rhodes promised to teach Zayn a lesson later.
- Nick Aldis was seen speaking with a very happy Danhausen. Aldis said that Danhausen should improvise his science experiments, so Danhausen ran off. As The Miz spoke with Aldis and wanted his match with Axiom postponed, Danhausen was seen in the background gathering items.
- Back from the break and The Miz made his entrance for his match against Spain’s Axiom. Kit Wilson is not in Barcelona as he had “too much moisturiser” so was not allowed into the country by Spanish officials, obviously. The power briefly went out. Danhausen is at it again! Axiom used his speed to get the upper hand on The Miz. Miz took control as the show returned from break. Axiom countered the IT kicks and hit kicks of his own. The lights went out again, Axiom hit the Golden Ratio to get the win.
- Backstage, R-Truth said he was not medically cleared, but he got Damian Priest a backup partner, Royce Keys. Priest was reluctant, but Truth convinced them to tag.
- Zayn spoke with Johnny Gargano backstage, who was still dejected. Matt Cardona tried to talk sense into Zayn.
- Damian Priest and Royce Keys vs. Tama and Talla Tomga was up next. Keys showed his power and speed early on. Keys was blindsided by Tama Tonga to give the heels the advantage. Keys made his comeback and tagged Priest in. Priest ran wild on The MFTs. Solo Sikoa hit Priest while the referee was distracted, so R-Truth ran down to try and take out Sikoa. Talla Tonga took out and pinned Priest among the chaos to get the win.
- Backstage, an angry Miz threatened to sue Aldis for an unsafe working environment. Miz got blasted with a fire extinguisher, Danhausen stopped Aldis from looking under the sheet.
- Following a recap of Jacob Fatu and Roman Reigns’ issues, Chelsea Green spoke with Tiffany Stratton backstage. Stratton did not want Green’s services.
- Sami Zayn vs. Matt Cardona took place next. Cardona took advantage early on. Zayn fought back with power moves and right hands. Cardona made his comeback and hit the Broski Boot. Cardona went for the Roughy Ryder, but Zayn blocked it. Zayn went for the Helluva Kick, Cardona hit the Rough Ryder, but Zayn got his foot on the rope. Zayn hit the Helluva Kick to get the win.
- A video package of King and Queen of the Ring aired. WWE still looks to be going to Saudi Arabia.
- Trick Williams and Lil Yachty made their entrance. Williams bragged about his accomplishments. Williams declared for the King of the Ring tournament before being interrupted by Carmelo Hayes. Melo spoke about his loss from last week and both men argued. Ricky Saints then interrupted. Saints claimed he was the rightful number one contender, but was struck by Williams.
- Carmelo Hayes and Ricky Saints went to a double countout.
- A Blake Monroe video package aired.
- Chelsea Green vs. Nia Jax was the final match of the show. Wade Barrett noted it was Nia’s birthday and he got her a bottle of Rioja. Jax used her power early on. Green hit a zig zag for the near fall. Lash Legend interfered, leading to Tiffany Stratton striking Nia Jax with the title while the referee was distracted. Green pinned Jax to get the win.
- Backstage, Paige and Brie Bella’s interview was interrupted by Fatal Influence. Jacy Jayne declared for Queen of the Ring.
- Cody Rhodes made his entrance and got a great ovation from the fans. Gunther quickly interrupted. Gunther was entirely focused on Rhodes. Gunther said that Rhodes always makes things about him, adding that he was an “entitled brat.” Rhodes fired back that being WWE Champion is addictive, and that Gunther is just as sick as he is. Gunther reminded Rhodes of the legends he retired and vowed to win the WWE title at Clash in Italy.
