WWE Hall Of Famer Rey Mysterio Provides Update On Injury Recovery

WWE legend Rey Mysterio has given the fans an update after being side-lined with injury earlier in the year.

The Hall of Famer suffered a torn groin on the final SmackDown before WrestleMania, meaning that he was unable to compete at the biggest show of the year and plans were changed on short notice. While the former World Champion has yet to get back in the ring for a match, he did recently make an appearance at the Worlds Collide special on June 7.

While speaking with La Platica, Mysterio was positive about his recovery and hoped to recover from the torn groin by August, adding that he also suffered a busted eardrum in the match:

“Good, pretty good,” Mysterio responded when asked about his recovery. “Yeah, man. I started my [physical therapy]. Not to mention, I had a busted eardrum as well, so I fixed that during my time off. I’m on the road to recovery. I should be back hopefully by August.”

Mysterio also detailed how the injury occurred, noting that, like most injuries in wrestling, it was due to a straightforward spot as opposed to anything high-risk:

“I stepped in the ring, the guy that I was wrestling stood in front of me, he bailed out the ring underneath the bottom rope and I went to chase him. And when I pushed off with my left leg, I just heard a [tear],” Mysterio said. “Like, ‘That’s it? I tore my groin like that?’ Yeah, usually it happens on the simplest sh*t. But with all the stuff that I do, you would always think that it’s something crazy. No, it’s always the opposite. Always the small stuff.”

With an in-ring career spanning more than 35 years, Mysterio is one of the most tenured wrestlers in the history of the sport. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023, the 50-year-old still shows no signs of slowing down, but has previously stated in interviews that he knows retirement is coming sooner rather than later.

Which WWE Star Replaced Rey Mysterio At WrestleMania?

After masked wrestler El Grande Americano repeatedly interfered in Mysterio’s matches, the two were set to face off on night one of WrestleMania 41. However, due to the Rey Mysterio injury, Rey Fenix was named the replacement opponent. El Grande Americano defeated Fenix in what was his Mania debut.
