Matt Hardy Says TNA Slammiversary Could Be A “Do Or Die” Moment For The Hardys

Matt and Jeff Hardy will make their long-awaited return to WWE on the next episode of NXT as part of the ongoing partnership with TNA. The Hardys

TNA star and tag team icon Matt Hardy has stated that if he and his brother Jeff Hardy do not win at Slammiversary, then it might be time to rethink their futures in the pro wrestling industry.

The Hardys [Matt & Jeff Hardy], The Rascalz [Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz], and First Class [AJ Francis & KC Navarro] will all be a part of the Tag Team Championship match at the TNA Premium Live Event on July 20 as they will challenge Nic and Ryan Nemeth for the titles in a ladder match. Given the stipulation is one that The Hardys made famous, Matt and Jeff are considered the favourites heading into the match.

However, with both men having 30-plus years of experience in the wrestling industry, the legendary tag team are well aware that the end of their careers is approaching fast. With this in mind and with the ladder match coming up, Hardy has stated that should they not win next month, then some conversations may be needed with his brother.

Speaking on his Extreme Life podcast, Hardy noted that the match will be do or die for them, and that it may be time to think about retirement if they don’t win the Tag Team Championships:

“We have kind of made this a do-or-die situation for myself and Jeff, if myself and Jeff, if we can’t perform as a top-level tag team, if we can’t be the best of the best, and we can’t get in there and hang with the current tag teams that are up and running today, and we don’t win those titles at Slammiversary, maybe it’s time for the Hardys to call it a career. So we’re kind of putting a tough stipulation on our match, just for ourselves,” he said. “We’re putting these expectations on ourselves… It’s going to make us rethink things. It’s going to make us refocus. It’s going to make us get to where we need to get.”

Hardy also clarified that they won’t retire if they lose, but it would lead to discussions about the possibility.

Matt Hardy And Jeff Hardy Recently Made WWE Return As Part Of TNA Partnership

In previous interviews, The Hardys have stated that they would love to have one final run in WWE before bringing their careers to a close, noting that they would also love a Hall of Fame induction. As part of the ongoing talent exchange between WWE and TNA, Matt and Jeff Hardy previously competed on NXT in February 2025.
