WWE Champion Set To Break All-Time Record

A current champion in WWE is set to become the longest-reigning holder in the title’s history.

On the January 9th episode of NXT, Oba Femi cashed in his Breakout Tournament opportunity on Dragon Lee to become the new North American Champion. Since then, Femi has been an unstoppable force with no one having the answer as to how to defeat the champion. Fast forward to the present day and Femi has held the title for 269 days, tying Wes Lee with the longest singular reign of the North American Championship. With no NXT live event scheduled for October 4th, Femi will break the record and begin his 270th day as champion on October 5th.

First introduced in 2018, the inaugural North American Champion was crowned in a critically acclaimed 6-way ladder match at NXT TakeOver New Orleans. The match was won by Adam Cole, who held onto the championship for 133 days.

NXT officially entered a new era on October 1st as the show premiered on the CW Network and will remain under the umbrella in the United States for at least the next 5 years. To kick off the show, Shawn Michaels appeared live and revealed that the NXT Men’s and Women’s Championships had been redesigned to mark the new era.

While not confirmed, Femi could also receive an updated design on October 8th ahead of his North American Championship defence against Tony D’Angelo.
