Willow Nightingale made her return from injury in a big way as she was victorious in the Casino Gauntlet match on AEW Dynamite.
The Gauntlet match made its return on the July 8 Beach Break special. Nightingale entered the match eighth and last and hit the power bomb onto Julia Hart to win the match. The order of entrants in the match was as follows:
- Athena
- Maya World
- Skye Blue
- Mina Shirakawa
- Rina (Stardom)
- Julia Hart
- Thunder Rosa
- Willow Nightingale
Nightingale had been off TV since May when she suffered a shoulder injury while defending her TBS Championship. Due to the severity of the injury, Nightingale was forced to relinquish the title and her spot in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
Willow Nightingale Wins Title Opportunity Following Casino Gauntlet Win
As a result of the victory, Nightingale will challenge Thekla for the Women’s Championship at the Redemption pay-per-view on July 26. Thekla, who was on commentary for the match, attacked her next challenger after the match was over. Mercedes Mone then ran down and attacked both women. Mone will face whoever holds the championship at All In Wembley next month.
Also on the July 8 AEW Dynamite, Kenny Omega dethroned MJF to win the AEW World Championship.
