Why WWE Booked New York Shows For WrestleMania 43 Weekend

Although WrestleMania 43 will be outside of the United States, WWE will still have a presence in New York City over that weekend.

The 2027 event is set to air live from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next year, marking the first time that the show has been held outside of North America. However, during the Madison Square Garden Saturday Night’s Main Event, a video package aired promoting upcoming shows. In April 2027, it was announced that NXT Stand & Deliver, AAA Eternal Glory, and a WrestleMania 43 watch party would all be taking place at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

With multiple WWE shows taking place in the city during that weekend, it is likely that multiple indie promotions will also descend on New York to host their own events given the amount of wrestling fans in the area. However, the reason for the update may have been because another major company also had plans that weekend.

WrestleMania 43 New York Watch Party & Other Shows May Be Early Counter To AEW

As reported by Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer RadioDave Meltzer noted that AEW had plans to run a show in New York that weekend. Meltzer added that given WWE would be running the Theater and not the full Garden that weekend, it would not impact All Elite Wrestling too much:

“I had been under the impression that AEW was going to run, and possibly in New York. If they are going to run in New York, I mean, if you’re putting an AEW show in the same market and they’re going to run AAA and NXT at The Theater even at best they’re going to get 4,000 people. It’s really not going to hurt AEW significantly. It’s something, if that’s what the plan was,” Meltzer said.

With WrestleMania taking place outside the US in 2027, Tony Khan has previously hinted that he may do something in the US that weekend.
