Fans expecting a rubber match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns may be waiting a while, if it happens at all.
Back in 2023, many expected to see The American Nightmare to defeat The Tribal Chief to win the WWE Championship and bring the lengthy reign to an end. However, following interference from Solo Sikoa, Rhodes was the one who was looking up at the lights when all was said and done.
One year later, Rhodes did finish the story as he defeated Reigns in the chaotic Bloodline Rules match in the main event of WrestleMania 40 night 2. With both men having one win over the other, and with Rhodes once again reigning as the WWE Champion, a third match between the 2 looks to be an inevitability. However, according to Rhodes, things may not be as straightforward.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Rhodes first stated that he is happy with how the matches played out, and can see the potential in a deciding match being booked:
“I’m very happy with what we put out there. I always try to wax poetic about him, anytime I’ve ever said something a little snarky, I guess it’s been more for entertainment. I can tell you, that’s probably a very hard match to have happen, but I could see it being very significant, it happening again.
“I Don’t Know What His [Roman Reigns] Outlook On It Is”: Cody Rhodes
Continuing, Rhodes added that while he is not adverse to it, he is unsure whether Reigns wants to run it back one more time:
“For the fans who really make this all up, you can’t just have two, you know? We split it. So that third exists. A lot of times matches can go in the file of the greatest match that never happened. I’m certainly not averse to it. I don’t know what his outlook on it is, we’re different than we were. Again, I’m not averse to it, because we’re split. He won one, I won the other.”
In a previous interview, Cody Rhodes spoke about a possible heel turn down the road.
