More information has been provided on Brock Lesnar’s WWE return.
SummerSlam 2025 ended in shocking fashion on August 3 as Brock Lesnar made his first WWE appearance in 2 years. Attacking John Cena in what was Cena’s final in-ring appearance at the event, Lesnar hit the 17-time Champion with an F5 to stand tall at the end of the show.
Given the controversial circumstances that led to Lesnar being kept off TV for an extended period, the return was a shock to the thousands in attendance and millions at home, and has been met with a lot of backlash. Lesnar was implicated in the Vince McMahon lawsuit back in January 2024 that ultimately led to McMahon resigning from the company due to allegations of sexual assault and trafficking. Lesnar has since been named in the lawsuit, allegedly open to receiving sexual content and favours from former employee Janel Grant while negotiating a new deal.
Speaking about the return of Lesnar on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez stated that the former WWE Champion was cleared to come back 4 weeks ago, elaborating on WWE’s view on how it related to the lawsuit:
“The short version of this is that four weeks ago, WWE legal cleared him. As far as why, I don’t know,” Meltzer said. “Obviously, everything relates to the Janel Grant lawsuit.”
“Either they’re confident that things are going to arbitration and Lesnar’s not a factor at that point, or they’re close to a settlement and then, at that point, Lesnar’s not a factor, or somebody there just had a change of mind, and I don’t know which one of those it is.”
Dave Meltzer also noted that the Lesnar return and Triple H’s previous appearance alongside President Trump at The White House were likely the two biggest factors why the post show press conferences were scrapped.
Brock Lesnar WWE Return Divides Opinion
Although many in MetLife Stadium cheered when Lesnar’s music hit, the reaction has not been as positive online. With the lawsuit still ongoing, many called out WWE for the decision, while others were not as concerned over what took place.
