Trick Williams won big with his WrestleMania debut as he is now the United States Champion.
Competing on WrestleMania 42 Sunday, Williams defeated Sami Zayn to capture the championship for the first time in his career. The closing moments of the match saw Lil Yachty take advantage of a referee distraction to attack Zayn, leading to Williams hitting a Trick Shot, but Zayn kicked out. Williams later hit a second Trick shot to win the match and the title.
The crowd were firmly behind Williams from the outset, as the recently debuting star was accompanied by Lil Yachty on his way to the ring. The fans booed Zayn throughout, with the SmackDown star’s change in attitude being acknowledged on commentary. Zayn also took out Yachty midway through the match, which led to heavy boos from the Las Vegas crowd.
The defeat brings Zayn’s reign with the US Championship to an end at 22 days. Zayn captured the gold from Carmelo Hayes on SmackDown after Williams inadvertently struck Hayes.
Trick Williams Wins First Main Roster Championship At WrestleMania 42
While this is Williams’ first reign with a main roster title, Williams is a former 2-time NXT Champion and 1-time NXT North American. Williams also made history in 2025 by becoming the first contracted WWE star to hold the TNA World Championship.
This was the first title change of the night, as Penta retained his Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match earlier in the show.
