Tony Khan has responded to 2 of the biggest questions regarding AEW: are there concerns over a new TV deal, and will The New Day become All Elite?
Prior to the ROH Supercard of Honor show on May 15, a report broke via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that those within WWE believe that All Elite Wrestling wouldn’t get a new TV deal from Paramount when their current agreement expires in late 2027:
“But another person in WWE noted to us this week that they have definitely spread word in the company among some if not many that AEW won’t be on Paramount/Skydance and question if they can get a viable deal elsewhere.”
AEW Dynamite and Collision currently air on TBS and TNT, respectively, in the United States.
While appearing at the Supercard of Honor post-show, Khan responded to the claims, adding that his response would have been different a couple of years ago:
“I saw a report today saying somebody in WWE is telling people within WWE talking about AEW’s next TV deal and talking about what we’re doing. And I was surprised by that and I’ll say what they said could not be further from the truth and they’re entitled to their opinions,” he said. “I’ve been trying to be respectful to them and try to conduct myself as a gentleman and then for them to go on background and spread these things…I’ll just turn the other cheek, and maybe a couple of years ago I wouldn’t have done it like that.”
Tony Khan Briefly Comments On New Day To AEW
Earlier in the month, news broke that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods had been released from their WWE contracts. Along with the shock of the news itself, the follow-up report stated that the former Tag Team Champions had been asked to take a pay cut.
With AEW being the second biggest promotion in the United States, many feel that it will only be a matter of time before Woods and Kingston become All Elite. When asked about this possibility, Khan noted that he can’t say too much as the duo are still under WWE contracts. Khan did add that he has a lot of admiration for the veteran tag team:
“I cannot comment, or I don’t think I should comment on wrestlers that still have a contractual obligation. As I understand it, I believe they are still obligated, and I don’t believe I’m allowed to talk to them. As such, I don’t feel it would be right to comment on them under the circumstances except to say that I think they are great wrestlers.”
