Following The New Day [Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods] being released by WWE, many feel that AEW is the inevitable next step.
At the start of the month, fans were stunned to hear that the veteran tag team had been let go by the company. Furthermore, there was outrage that Kingston and Woods were asked to take a pay cut, which ultimately led to their departure.
Following The New Day’s exit, Woods and Kingston have been announced for GalaxyCon, which will be their first non-WWE appearance. With the former Tag Team Champions under the standard 90-day no compete clause, they are unable to appear for another wrestling promotion until early August. When that time comes, All Elite Wrestling appears to be the next step.
The New Day Unanimously Wanted In AEW
In an update by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, more than a dozen sources within AEW stated that they wanted the former WWE stars in the company. The report adds that a number of big names were making an internal push to sign Woods and Kingston. With the duo having decades of experience, they are said to be very respected by stars of both promotions.
It is also noted that Woods and Kingston will be announced for more conventions in the coming weeks.
Woods has previously appeared alongside AEW star Kenny Omega as part of video game projects. Additionally, AEW tag team The Young Bucks have been vocal about wanting to work a program with The New Day.
