Tony Khan Responds To William Regal's Concerns On Wrestler Safety

Tony Khan has addressed William Regal’s previous comments about professional wrestlers performing dangerous spots, which many fans believe was directed at an AEW match.

Towards the end of 2025, William Regal put out a long post on social media urging wrestlers to stop landing on their heads. Speaking from personal experience and what he has seen happen to his peers, Regal warned the stars of today that their quality of life would not be the same years down the line if they continued to take such huge risks in the ring.

Although Regal did not reference any matches in particular, fans noted that the address came shortly after AEW Worlds End, where Kyle Fletcher landed badly after taking a move from Jon Moxley in their Continental Classic semifinal match.

“We’ve Never Had A Career-Ending Injury In AEW”: Tony Khan Responds To William Regal’s Comments

While appearing on the Mark Hoke Show Pro Wrestling Radio Show/ Podcast, Regal’s comments were brought up to Khan, to which the AEW President noted that professional wrestling is a high-risk industry, and that there has never been a career-ending injury that has occurred in his promotion:

“Pro wrestlers are always taking hard-hitting and high-risk chances. That’s one of the things that makes pro wrestling so exciting. In AEW, we’ve been able to have all of these great events, and we’ve never had a career-ending injury like that from our wrestling.”

Continuing, Khan noted that he has stepped in at times and told the wrestlers that an idea might be too far, and that it is about getting the balance right:

“I don’t think that AEW is any different than any other wrestling promotion in the world. The wrestlers want to do their very best, and sometimes a promotion will step in. AEW and I have at times stepped in and said, ‘I can’t do that. I don’t think that’s a good idea.’ I don’t want to do that every day or every match, but there are times where it comes up, and that’s okay.“

“Everything you talk about, these are things you constantly balance in sports. Not just AEW, but all sports. Taking care of your athletes and doing things to protect the health and safety of the athletes to make the sport work.”
