Tony Khan AEW Full Gear 2025 Media Call Notes

Ahead of AEW Full Gear 2025, Tony Khan hosted a call to speak to the media about the upcoming event that will return for the second consecutive year.

The show is expected to be headlined by the WrestleDream rematch between World Champion Adam Page and challenger Samoa Joe, who will this time clash inside a steel cage. Additionally, Jon Moxley will face Kyle O’Reilly in a no-holds-barred match, the inaugural AEW National Champion will be crowned, and Mercedes Mone will look to secure the top prize in the AEW women’s division as she takes on Kris Statlander.

Tony Khan opens the call and praises DC as the biggest sponsor in AEW.
Tony says that right now Kris Statlander is the leading lady in AEW and acknowledges Mercedes Mone’s success in and out of AEW. Khan also speaks about Statlander returning from injury and how she has grown as a person. Khan also puts over the match at Full Gear and how big it will be.
Tony spoke about past decisions he made and anything he could change, and said that over the years he has made thousands of decisions, but wishes he had Timecop technology to go back in line. Tony also said that not having The Briscoes on AEW TV is something he thinks about every day.
Asked about the WBD relationship, Tony was very positive on how the network creates opportunities and Full Gear being sponsored by DC. Tony was also optimistic about the future and that his family have never been prouder to be associated with AEW.
Asked about the National Championship, Tony said that he was thrilled about crowning a new champion while also putting over that AEW hosts events all over America and has stars from all over the world. Tony added that it creates a new tradition and hints that outside names could come in, and the champion could defend a championship in another promotion, specifically citing that the National Champion will be defending the title at ROH Final Battle. Tony also says that the Casino Gauntlet is his favourite match to work on.
Asked about AEW’s relationship with the media, Tony acknowledged that there are different skill levels, talents and insights in the industry. Tony also noted that it is important to find the top people and has seen people rise through the ranks in reporting in football, NFL and in AEW. Tony also credits PWTorch and outlets who have been talking about AEW since the beginning.
Asked about Kazuchika Okada being named as Hiroshi Tanahashi’s final opponent, Tony said that the time was right to announce it then based on how Tanahashi’s run was going at that point and the calendars of AEW and NJPW. Tony also spoke about the excitement for Tanahashi’s final match and how it has been reflected in ticket sales.
Asked about the National Championship again and adding another title into AEW, Tony noted that AEW produces 104 shows a year along with ROH compared to just 1 show a week and no ROH. Tony noted that he made no changes to the Men’s Championships in ROH, but expanded the Women’s Championships. Tony then spoke about AEW’s expansion, including the addition of Collision, while also adding the additions of All In, which have produced the biggest gates in AEW history.
Tony puts over the Women’s Blood and Guts match and promises that there will be another one in the future, and also gave credit to the Men’s match.
Asked about the new This Book Is All Elite book by Keith Elliot Greenberg, Tony says that while he hasn’t read it cover to cover, he was happy with what he has seen and gave credit to Greenberg for his past work.
Tony says a Wrestle Dynasty event won’t take place in 2026, but is open to collaborating with NJPW again for a future iteration of the event.
In closing comments, Tony spoke about the Continental Classic, stating that he doesn’t want to announce the field until he has assessed the rosters due to injury.
