Sting has won AEW gold for the first time in his career.
Teaming with Darby Allin on the February 7th episode of Dynamite, the duo defeated Ricky Starks and Big Bill to become the new Tag Team Champions.
Taking place in the main event of the show, the title match took place under tornado tag rules, meaning that the rules were relaxed. At one point, it looked as if the match would be over as Starks hit The Icon with the Scorpion Death Drop, but the Hall of Famer would kick out.
The closing moments of the match would see Sting hit a Scorpion Death Drop of his own on Starks to win the match and the championships. The Icon’s family would join him in the ring to celebrate the moment, shortly followed by a burst of confetti. Unfortunately, the celebrations were short-lived as The Young Bucks attacked the new champions with baseball bats, standing tall as the show went off the air.
Sting Continues The Build To Revolution
March 3rd will see Sting compete in his final match in the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. With the events that took place at the end of the show, it is expected to be Sting and Allin vs. The Young Bucks at the next pay-per-view.
