Stephanie Vaquer has won her first championship on the main roster following her victory at WWE Wrestlepalooza on September 20.
Competing at the Premium Live Event in Indianapolis, Vaquer defeated IYO SKY to win the title for the first time in her career. The closing moments of the match saw Vaquer hit a sprial tap onto SKY to win the match and capture the title. Vaquer targeted SKY’s knee throughout the match, with SKY landing knee first following a missed moonsault to allow Vaquer to capitalise. After the match, Vaquer celebrated with her father, who travelled from Chile to watch her daughter compete. Both women showed each other respect after the match.
The victory adds to Vaquer’s WWE championship record, which also includes previous reigns as NXT Women’s and NXT Women’s North American Champion.
Stephanie Vaquer Triumphs At WWE Wrestlepalooza
Vaquer’s victory comes one month after her originally scheduled title match, which was supposed to take place against then-champion Naomi at Clash in Paris at the end of August. However, as Naomi vacated the title due to pregnancy earlier in the year, the match was called off. With Raw in need of a champion, General Manager Adam Pearce made the announcement that Vaquer and former champion IYO SKY should have the opportunity at Wrestlepalooza to win the vacant championship.
Vaquer earned the opportunity to challenge for the championship back at Evolution after winning a battle royal on the all-women’s show.
Following the match, it was confirmed that Vaquer will face the WWE Women’s Champion at Crown Jewel next month, where the winner will become the new Crown Jewel Champion. Tiffany Stratton is currently the Women’s Champion, but will put her title on the line against Jade Cargill and Nia Jax on the September 26 episode of SmackDown.
